Cayuse
In 2024, the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) selected Cayuse as an electronic research administration (eRA) software solution. Cayuse is expected to streamline the proposal submission process, support non-financial post-award management, and enhance oversight of research compliance activities. Cayuse will provide centralized storage of proposal data, automated routing for approvals, and visibility into status.
The implementation of Cayuse will enable ORI to move from primarily manual processes and procedures, which are administratively burdensome, to an automated and structured process of managing research administration. Cayuse will also streamline these processes and improve the overall workflow and effectiveness of grant management across the project lifecycle. Cayuse applications will support SMU’s research enterprise to integrate management of proposals and awards, simplify subawards, share data, and ensure regulatory compliance to better comply with federal grant policies.
Cayuse implementation has been divided into four phases: 1. Proposals and Sponsored Projects, 2. Human Ethics, Animal Oversight and Hazard Safety, 3. Fund Manager and Project Effort 4. Inventions. Phase 1 focused on Proposals and Sponsored Projects is to be completed by the end of 2025. Other phases are anticipated to go live in 2026.
Implementation Process
The implementation process at ÃÛÌÒ½´began in March 2025 and is ongoing for various system capabilities. The implementation team is currently working on these capabilities, and timelines are subject to change.
