Fall term payment plan enrollment starts July 1st!

ÃÛÌÒ½´offers interest-free monthly payment plans for fall, spring, and summer terms. These plans don’t cover Miscellaneous charges or past due balances and aren’t available for Jan, May, or August terms. Re-enrollment is required each term. A down payment may be needed if you enroll after the first installment date.

Five Month Payment Plan - This term plan permits payment in 5 installments: July 20 through November 20. The non-refundable enrollment fee is $70 per term. The deadline to enroll in this payment plan is August 24.

Spring payment plan information coming soon!

SMUpay moved to new partner for our payment plans, but if you are currently enrolled in a summer payment plan, please know that the final installment of your summer payment plan is still scheduled to occur automatically on July 20th. Beginning June 23rd at 5PM CST, access to view or update your current summer payment plan account will be unavailable. After June 23rd, please contact our office for any account changes or questions you may have about your plan.

  • If a payment plan is available, an “Offers Available” notification will appear under the Enroll in Plan button.
  • Select your desired plan.
  • Follow the prompts and provide your preferred payment method.
Note: A down payment is required if you enroll after the first installment date. Debit/credit card payments will incur a service charge.

  • Log in to SMUpay and click Make a Payment or navigate to the Payment Plan tab and select Make a Payment.
  • You’ll be prompted to choose whether to pay the next installment or make a general payment toward the plan.

When can I enroll in a plan?
  • Fall Term – July 1
  • Spring Term – November 1
  • Summer Term – April 1

Can I use a payment plan for a prior term balance?
No. Plans are term-specific and cannot be applied to prior or future term balances. Plans become available once all past due charges are cleared.

Can I enroll in more than one payment plan per term?
No. Only one payment plan is allowed per student per term.

What happens if a payment is rejected?
  • The system will attempt the payment again in 5 days.
  • If the second attempt fails, the plan will be canceled, and the full balance will be due immediately.
  • A $30 returned payment fee, charged by Flywire, will apply.
  • To reinstate a canceled plan, contact Student Accounts at 214-768-5555 or studentaccounts@smu.edu.

How do I update my payment method?
Click Payment Plan, then Manage Plan, and select Manage Auto Pay to update your bank account or card details.

Do I need to log in monthly to make payments?
No. Payments are automatically drafted from your saved payment method. To make changes, notify us 48–72 hours before the due date.
